Dog’s Get On Santa’s Nice List

At the Benton Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington, every dog found themselves on Santa’s nice list this Christmas—and their joy was nothing short of magical.

Wagging tails and prancing paws filled the shelter as the dogs experienced a heartwarming holiday treat: the chance to pick out their own special gifts! This festive tradition was made possible thanks to the creativity and compassion of volunteer Julie Saraceno, who has been a dedicated advocate for the shelter’s residents since 2020.

Julie spearheaded the effort by creating a wishlist for the dogs, knowing that while the shelter provides essential care, toys and treats often fall outside the budget. “I believe every shelter dog deserves a little extra joy while waiting for their forever home,” she shared.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, the wishlist was fully funded, ensuring every dog had a present to unwrap. Volunteers and staff lovingly set up the toys beneath a sparkling Christmas tree, giving each pup the chance to select their favorite. The result? Pure holiday magic.

“It was incredible to see the dogs’ excitement and happiness,” Julie said. “The holidays are about love and kindness, and it was clear this small gesture brought a little extra holiday cheer to these deserving pups.”

Special thanks go out to the donors and volunteers who made this joyful event possible. Together, they reminded us all of the true spirit of the season: giving from the heart.
