A Tennessee police officer is earning widespread praise after his fast actions helped save a family from a dangerous apartment fire caught on body camera video.

Officer Rogers of the Chattanooga Police Department responded to an apartment fire in Hixson on May 1 and quickly learned that residents were still trapped inside the building. With smoke filling the hallways and flames spreading near the entrance, he immediately rushed inside to help.

As conditions worsened, Rogers located a mother and her two children trying to escape the burning apartment complex. He safely carried 4-year-old Marlowe Blaylock out of the building while her mother, Rachel Blaylock, and 10-year-old Charles followed behind through the smoke.

The frightening rescue unfolded in just moments, but for the family, it was an experience they will never forget. Rachel later described the panic of trying to figure out how to get both of her children safely down the stairs while the fire continued to spread.

According to reports, Officer Rogers stayed calm and focused on getting everyone out safely. After helping the family escape, he even attempted to slow the fire himself with a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived at the scene.

Thankfully, the emergency ended without injuries, and the family was safely reunited outside the building.

The officer’s bravery has since inspired many across the community, with social media users and local residents praising his willingness to put himself in danger to protect others.

In a statement following the rescue, the Chattanooga Police Department commended Rogers for going above and beyond the call of duty. While police officers are not trained as firefighters, the department said his actions reflected the dedication officers have to keeping their communities safe.

The dramatic rescue serves as a powerful reminder that courage and compassion can make all the difference during an emergency. Thanks to one officer’s quick response, a frightening situation ended with a hopeful outcome and a family safely rescued from harm.
