On November 2023, during their first date, the Detroit-area couple visited Aldi after dinner to hunt for a specific candle Walker wanted. A quick selfie in the Aldi Finds aisle and a post to a Facebook fan group sparked a wave of appreciation for their unique date idea. Fast-forward nine months, and Phillips proposed to Walker along the shores of Lake St. Clair. To share their joy, they announced their engagement in the same Aldi Facebook group and the response was overwhelming, garnering over 17,000 likes.
Aldi soon joined the celebration in a big way. The company invited the couple for a romantic, after-hours candlelit dinner inside their local store in Clawson, Michigan. Initially skeptical, the couple confirmed the invitation was genuine and eagerly accepted.
Their engagement dinner, hosted among Aldi’s seasonal items, was nothing short of gourmet. They enjoyed a four-course meal featuring dishes like grilled asparagus with melon and prosciutto, short rib ragout with polenta, and salted caramel cheesecake for dessert. The setting, though unconventional, made the evening even more special.
“We helped these lovebirds celebrate their engagement in the place where it all started the ALDI Finds aisle,” the company shared on Instagram, where their post received over 27,000 likes. Aldi also expressed pride in being part of its customers’ cherished moments, saying, “ALDI isn’t just a grocery store it’s where memories are made.”
This isn’t the first time Aldi has played a role in a love story. In 2022, the chain hosted a couple’s wedding among its shelves, proving that it’s more than a place for bargains it’s a backdrop for lifelong memories.
While Phillips and Walker have yet to set a wedding date, they’re enjoying their engagement and even jokingly hinting at an Aldi-hosted wedding. For now, their story serves as a reminder that romance can be found in the most unexpected places.
