Kevin Durant is used to all kinds of ovations at home and on the road, in front of crowds both adoring and hostile. But the one he received when he walked into Mrs. Friar’s classroom at Positive Tomorrows elementary school on Wednesday morning was perhaps the most rewarding yet.
When Durant stepped through the door of classroom No. 108, one young boy quite literally fell to the floor in excitement and surprise.
This was the third time that Durant has donated time or money to the school, which specializes in aiding homeless youth in the Oklahoma community. Along with the visit, the former NBA MVP also signed a check for $35,000 to help these children continue their education.
“I can remember when I was that age and I wanted somebody to come and talk to us when I was a kid,” Durant told NewsOK. “We never thought it was possible. So [I] just wanted to provide that for kids coming up now. Kids are the future.”
The old adage is that no good deed goes unpunished. But it seems that in this case, K.D. got the ultimate prize — seeing just how wide these kids grinned when they saw him stand in front of their desks and whiteboards.
